Hypnosis and Self Hypnotism

Last week I got myself to download a few eBooks containing topics on hypnosys and self hypnosis. I have always been interested in Hypnotism since my childhood but they were more about the tips and tricks of a conjuror. I liked the way a magician befools the audience and achieves in common view what seems impossible to everyone. No doubt it is a great challenge to overcome.

But with the passing of years this interest has become more analytical and more subjective in nature. While the realm of magic gave way to hypnosis what strikes me most is not the show or the presentation but more as to the depth of this less known process in helping people to achieve what seems impossible.
One particular stream of Hypnosis is called the NLP or the Neuro Linear programming. It deals with programming of one’s mind t achieve better results. Now the mind or the brain is depended on our being or our personality. It has two main sections, the conscious and the sub-conscious, also called the ID and the EGO. What we do consciously and with our own decisions comes under the activities of the conscious brain, what we do not seem to be able to relate directly is the realm of the subconscious or the unconscious.

Most hypnosis related studies are concerned with creating a better understanding or a rapport of the conscious mind with the unconscious. It aims at clearing the channels of communications between the two in order to produce better results in our daily life.

Can we hypnotize ourselves? Well NLP and other streams of thoughts do say that we can and most of us already have. Remember the last time you were daydreaming? Remember the last time when some one was calling for you in office but you were too engrossed in your own thoughts? These are all forms of self hypnosis and ones where we have subconsciously led ourselves away from our conscious world into the realm of sub consciousness. These are all altered states of the mind and are a form of a trance.
Hypnosis has three levels of trance where by one can slowly sink or lightly float from one state into another. These are the light, medium and deep states and each have their own signs or symptoms to identify. Hypnosis can cause this floating or sinking feeling for different individuals, and for others it manifests as highly increased senses whereby some people report that they have higher alertness to different events around them. For others it also produces a sense of amnesia or a distortion of time.

The question which I have more interest is can this be practiced on one own self and can it be used purposefully to develops ones own psyche or produce better results in ones own life?
I guess there is and you can surely use it to better yourself into a more productive individual in all senses of the word.
What I would want readers to keep in mind is that no hypnosis can be successfully initiated without the consent of the subject or the medium. It has to be brought in with the subject’s permission and cooperation. Though Hypnosis is not sleep it is a form of altered relaxation and as a rule everyone can be hypnotized.
Now the question remains is what is self hypnotism. How can one go about to use it on oneself?
Self hypnotism is a way of hypnotizing ones own self. This can be brought about with complete relaxation of the mind and body. It helps one to shake away negative feelings, or attitudes and sentiments that are self destructing. It can also be used to purely get yourself out of a sad, depressed or bad mood and feelings.

What you would need is to do in order to hypnotize yourself is to find a relaxing place and posture for your body and mind to submit to your own cause. Then you would need to guide yourself slowly into the stages of trance and hold yourself there. Thirdly you need to study yourself from a distance in your mind, identify the negativity and the gaps that you see in yourself. Once done you need to change this image to the one you desire to slowly reflect the image that shows positivity, energy, happiness and strength. Store this image in your mind and then undo the hypnosis. Slowly come out of this relaxed state and back to your own world.
You would find that though things around you haven’t changed, you have.
All the best!!!
