Snippet on Life

21st July 2009 by Samit No Comments

I just remembered this story which I read quite some time ago and wanted to share it with you all. This happens one of the best snippets I have heard for quite some time and lists very high in my favorites.

vector spring illustration with flower on blue background photo. Once Upon a time a sage walked up to a mountain stream and asked the stream… .. “How do you make such beautiful noises?”.
The stream replied” Its only due to the rocks and boulders I meet in my way.”

In a very simple way, the message is presented and it sure hits us. I just wanted to tell you that this probably represents our journey through Life too. Life becomes fulfilling only when you strive to achieve things against odds, the higher the odds the greater is the sense of accomplishment.

I mean many of us might have gone through bad phases in Life. Many of us might be going through this lean phase presently. What I want to reemphasize is that do not loose hope, the light is always there at the end of the tunnel. And the longer is the tunnel, the greater is the sense of achievement at the end.
So do not surrender yourself to negative thoughts. Keep reaffirming positivity and produce positive self impressions.

So now when I sit and think back of all the difficult times that I have gone through; ones that were so challenging at times that I almost gave up the strength to hang on or to fight, but in the end just didn’t for some reason or the other, I feel proud. I feel proud that I never left the will to push on, go further and to keep doing my best at the worst of times. This is the sense of accomplishment I have and the feeling makes me happy today.
I hope all of u would be working on the same thoughts and put our best foot forward.
And so I end with the age old saying” Tough times never last, tough people do.”
Stay Positive.
All the Best!!!

Taming the unconscious mind

20th July 2009 by Samit 1 Comment

We live in a world which is mostly dependent on conscious interactions between human beings. We are consciously act on things that we need to. From setting the alarm in the morning to brushing our teeth at night, most of us lead the day with profound conscious decisions .In order to do so , we rely heavily on the conscious mind, or the part of our brain which works on these conscious decisions.

Brain-KeyBut the other half , or a far greater half of our brain is known as the subconscious or the unconscious mind. This is that section of our brain which holds the key to a lot of our behavioural functions, attitudes, self beliefs and thought processes. Why do certain people differ on facing the same set of stimulus? The answer lies in this part of the mind which is usually difficult to connect and more difficult to acccess. The power of the brain unleased, covers topics by which you can access this part of your mind and look for answers that are stored here.

There is another way too to tame this subconscious mind to work for your benefit. This is by constant positive vibrations and reaffirmations. You need to go on reaffirming positivity each and every time to this subconscious self of yours. In return it would feed you the same amount of positivity when you need it most.

Now how can you push positive reaffirmations to your subconscious brain? The first and most effective way is by repetition. Repeating positive thoughts in your minds, repeating positive words, and positive sounds comes in handy. Listening to good speeches help, listening to self help programs also add to your subconscious images. You need to program yourself to say that you are able to resolve existing issues, face new ones and come out triumphant. The image of a smiling you holds a lot of water. Also does positive sounds and vibrations, like the tingling of church bells, prayers and hymns, music which is light and flowing. The Indians who are mostly Hindus place a lot of emphasis on the aspect of sound. Many of its religious hymns are built on the aspect of sound and its reverberations. Their ‘Ohm” is a sound which generates deep from within…. The far-east is well known to have birds in their homes. Chinese and far-east people can be seen gossiping with each other while their birds also do the same from within the cages.

The smell of flowers and incense are also good for the psyche as it helps in concentration of the mind.

Once you are able to connect to the other half of your mind, you need to keep that route of communication open and reinforce the positive thoughts at every opportune moment. A nice quite place may help initially, but later you would be attuned to practice the same even in crowded places, where you would be able to shut off your mind from the external mind and go in deep within you.

The multiple reaffirmation techniques would slowly create a new image f you deep within the recesses of your mind. The result would be that your conscious brain now begins to be fed that same information or image as it behaves with the social world. Thus it would only throw positive, dynamic and energetic images of you and react similarly to external stimulus as it has been programmed to react such. Positive feelings and ideas begets positivity. You would be able to keep nagging negativity out of your minds and thus prosper in your life and career. The unknown and the unconscious have ultimately been tamed.

All the best!!!

Hypnosis and Self Hypnotism

19th July 2009 by Samit 3 Comments

Last week I got myself to download a few eBooks containing topics on hypnosys and self hypnosis. I have always been interested in Hypnotism since my childhood but they were more about the tips and tricks of a conjuror. I liked the way a magician befools the audience and achieves in common view what seems impossible to everyone. No doubt it is a great challenge to overcome.

But with the passing of years this interest has become more analytical and more subjective in nature. While the realm of magic gave way to hypnosis what strikes me most is not the show or the presentation but more as to the depth of this less known process in helping people to achieve what seems impossible.
One particular stream of Hypnosis is called the NLP or the Neuro Linear programming. It deals with programming of one’s mind t achieve better results. Now the mind or the brain is depended on our being or our personality. It has two main sections, the conscious and the sub-conscious, also called the ID and the EGO. What we do consciously and with our own decisions comes under the activities of the conscious brain, what we do not seem to be able to relate directly is the realm of the subconscious or the unconscious.

Most hypnosis related studies are concerned with creating a better understanding or a rapport of the conscious mind with the unconscious. It aims at clearing the channels of communications between the two in order to produce better results in our daily life.

Can we hypnotize ourselves? Well NLP and other streams of thoughts do say that we can and most of us already have. Remember the last time you were daydreaming? Remember the last time when some one was calling for you in office but you were too engrossed in your own thoughts? These are all forms of self hypnosis and ones where we have subconsciously led ourselves away from our conscious world into the realm of sub consciousness. These are all altered states of the mind and are a form of a trance.
Hypnosis has three levels of trance where by one can slowly sink or lightly float from one state into another. These are the light, medium and deep states and each have their own signs or symptoms to identify. Hypnosis can cause this floating or sinking feeling for different individuals, and for others it manifests as highly increased senses whereby some people report that they have higher alertness to different events around them. For others it also produces a sense of amnesia or a distortion of time.

The question which I have more interest is can this be practiced on one own self and can it be used purposefully to develops ones own psyche or produce better results in ones own life?
I guess there is and you can surely use it to better yourself into a more productive individual in all senses of the word.
What I would want readers to keep in mind is that no hypnosis can be successfully initiated without the consent of the subject or the medium. It has to be brought in with the subject’s permission and cooperation. Though Hypnosis is not sleep it is a form of altered relaxation and as a rule everyone can be hypnotized.
Now the question remains is what is self hypnotism. How can one go about to use it on oneself?
Self hypnotism is a way of hypnotizing ones own self. This can be brought about with complete relaxation of the mind and body. It helps one to shake away negative feelings, or attitudes and sentiments that are self destructing. It can also be used to purely get yourself out of a sad, depressed or bad mood and feelings.

What you would need is to do in order to hypnotize yourself is to find a relaxing place and posture for your body and mind to submit to your own cause. Then you would need to guide yourself slowly into the stages of trance and hold yourself there. Thirdly you need to study yourself from a distance in your mind, identify the negativity and the gaps that you see in yourself. Once done you need to change this image to the one you desire to slowly reflect the image that shows positivity, energy, happiness and strength. Store this image in your mind and then undo the hypnosis. Slowly come out of this relaxed state and back to your own world.
You would find that though things around you haven’t changed, you have.
All the best!!!

Tips for International Travel

7th July 2009 by Samit 3 Comments

So are you planning to go on a Trip? Have you decided that it is time for you to hang your boots for a couple of weeks and take the plunge. I mean take a trip somewhere with your family.  Rather, take a trip to some other exotic country and cool your heels off. What are the preparations you need to make such a travel or trip successful?

AirCraft Taking Off

AirCraft Taking Off

Here are some quick tips:

1. Geo political basics of your destination:

Location and Demographics: The first thing you have to do for any international travel is to know more and more about the place you are scheduled to visit. Where is it located.? Which are the major states/provinces?
Political : What kind of a government does it have. Does it have a monarchy ( Brunei) or a democratic (India) or communist government (Cuba).Does it recognize human rights? Is the country part of UN? Is it a religious state especially an Islamic country (Saudi Arabia)? Does the country have political instability (Pakistan or Iran)?
Society : is it socially safe? Does it have ethnic/religious discord amongst its people like Iraq or Myanmar or Indonesia? Is it safe for tourists where Afghanistan is not? And if you are a westerner, check it twice.

2. Climatic conditions:

Try to learn about the climatic conditions prevailing during the time of visit. Colder climates would mean packing your luggage with more woolen and warm clothing. Warmer or seaside climate means mostly Tees and light coloured clothing. In case you are travelling to the middle east , pack some sun screen lotion too. So it is imperative that you know the expected climate and temperatures for that location.

3. Culture and Society :

Some countries have very orthodox cultures and expects to impose the same to all citizens and residents or even travelers who come to their country. The best example of this would be Saudi Arabia. They do not tolerate any deterrence from the rules and cultures they have and would like you to observe while on their soil. Women must be fully covered from top of their heads to toes. No movies or liquor anywhere in their country. Violation brings strict punishment even leading to public beheading. Some other countries which though they have orthodox cultures are not of an imposing nature. An example is Japan which has very conservative and strict way of life but they do not impose it upon foreigner or travelers. So before you embark on your trip it is very essential to know the cultures and the practices of the society of the country that you would be visiting.

4. Language :

Try to know the main language or languages that are spoken and the areas where they are spoken. In many countries it is usually one or two languages which are spoken and a little idea of one of them would sail you through. You would find that in almost all British colonies English would be fine, so would be French for French colonies. In most south American countries Latin or Spanish would do the trick. But in some countries, there are a lot of languages spoken and it changes with every sate province you travel A fine example is India which has about 17 popular languages along with Hindi which is thei national language and about 53 dialects. So for most countries, you can keep a language /translation book handy and it is better to know the basic questions and the basic cordialities.

5. Food habits :

Learn the basic food habits of your destination country. In most countries sandwiches and juice/milk/cereals are available for your basic nourishment. Learn about the cooking techniques used. Countries in the far east would predominantly be light cooked food with steamed food being more popular. China has a history of serving snakes and scorpions as delicacies. Japan is heard of serving monkey brains too. India serves one of the regions most spicy food of the world, and so does Mexico. Middle east serves grilled and smoked food.Russia serves vodka during daytime. Italians serves wine for lunches. So it is always better to know the local food habits. Identify some local food which might be fine with you or you would like to taste while in your visit. Keep some basic digestive pills handy before you do so. And always drink safe bottled water when you are a foreigner.

6. Logistics:

Zooming on to the location of travel , it is always better to know the common modes of travel available in the region. Can you rent a car there? Is the driving licence you have recognized in that particular country? How far would you need to travel for sight seeing? Where is the closest airport terminal or the local rail station? Does it have public transport? Is it safe for tourists to avail them? What are the chances of getting mugged or pick pocketed in the streets? My advice is don’t take your chances when a foreign country and play it safe.

Thanks for reading this post. Comments are highly appreciated.
Will soon have an article on what to pack in your travelbags !!!
